SHRI. SURYAKANT KHALADKAR

Shri Suryakant Khaladkar, who hails from Poona is a well-known Shehanai and Sundri player with the great gift of expressiveness.Sundri itself is a very unique instrument hence its players are all the more rare. He was born in 1936 in Poona. The love for music and rhythm was inculcated in him by his father, Shri Baburaoji Khaladkar who is also a well known Shehanai Player. Suryakant has devoted his heart and soul for the study of music for more than 25 years.

Shri Suryakant Khaladkar is an artist with creative talent and full command over the instruments. His style reflects the charm of pure Indian Classical music. In his presentation of ragas on Shehnai and Sundri he brings out the subtle characteristics of ragas and spells the audience with their lyrical charm and aesthetic beauty. His presentation, be it of raga, thumri, natya sangeet or dhun, is always superb... pleasant and aesthetically beautiful . He plays  the gayaki style. His performances invariably give evidence of his skill in bringing out the essence of ragas by subtle and judicious use of their notes. His performance is a great fascination for intellectuals as well as for a layman because of his creativeness which presents the grandeure of ragas, delicacy of thumri and melody of dhun. His concerts arean everlasting experience of delight and of music.

Shri Suryakant Khaladkar has established himself as an artist with a great talent. Since 1962 he has been giving performances in different parts of India. His performances in Sur Singar Samsad, Sawai Gandharva Anniversary music festibval, Maharashtra State Music Conferences have been highly acclaimed by the lovers of music. He also visited Germany and France and received the appreciation and recognition from the lovers of music.

Polydor Record Co. has taken  L.P's. and E.P's. of Shri Suryakant Khaladkar & his   brothers playing duet on Shehanai and Sundri. He also performed a duet programme playing Sundri with the renowned violinist Shri P.D. Joshi. Shri Suryakant Khaladkar is regularly performing on Door Darshan and All India Radio. His talent is acknowledged by them by inviting him to appear for the inaugural function of colour projection of Bombay Door Darshan.
