TRAINING IN DANCE
Have undergone rigorous training in Kathak from the nationally
acclaimed Dancer - Choreographer, Guru Rohini Bhate for more than twenty years. Guru
Rohini Bhate has evolved a unique personal style based on both the Lucknow and Jaipur
gharanas of Kathak. This training continues to the present day through personal sessions,
discussions, etc.

TITLES AND AWARDS
1. Felicitation by the Pune Municipal Corporation for choreograophy and execution of dance
pieces in the play "Laxmi Gauri" performed at the Fifth Third World Theatre
Festival, Seol, Korea, 1989.
2. Award for excellence in dance, Shrirang Kala Niketan, Talegaon, 1989.
3. Was chosed to represent the Guru Rohini Bhate tradition of Kathak at a felicitation of
Guru Rohiniji, organised by Janasmmohini, Pune, 1996.
4. Won the "Ten Outstanding Young Indians" award instituted by the Indian Junior
Chambers, 1986.
5. Stood first, with distinction in the Master's examinations conducted by the Lalit Kala
Kendra (Centre for dance, drama and music), University of Pune, 1998.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Have taught students at beginning and advanced levels at the Nrityabharati Kathak Dance
Academy, Pune; Blacksburg, Virginia, U.S.A. and at the Damle Sabhagriha Branch of
Nrityabharati, for a total of more than twelve years. At the Damle Sabhagriha Branch also,
students receive rigorous training on the pattern specially devised by Guru Rohiniji, each
student receiving exclusive individual attention as well. 
CONTRIBUTION TO THE FIELD OF DANCE
1. Devised and executed a series of lecture-demonstrations on Kathak dance aimed at school
children aged 7 - 15. These were delivered at the personality development camps near Pune,
1995-96.
2. Lectured on various aspects of Kathak at Rotary Club meetings, 1991 - 92
3. Judged several dance competitions in Pune, 1985 - present.
4. Gave a lecture demonstration on historical and musical aspects of Kathak at a Kendriya
Vidyalaya Refreshers' course for music teachers, 1999.
ORIGINAL CHOREOGRAPHY
1. Group Nritya items in the time cycles of 11 beats (taal Ashtamangal), 16 beats (taal
Teentaal), and 10 beats (taal Zaptaal).
2. Solo Nritya item entitled "Naad Roopa" to music by Ustad Usman Khan: An
innovative blend of traditional performance and Raaga Yaman played on the sitar.
3. Choreography and execution of dance pieces in plays "Laxmi Gauri" (Korea
1981) and "Malavikagnimitram" (Pune, 1980).
4. Traditional Ganesh Vandanas: to a poem by Shahir Gangu Haibati and a Ganesh Aarti.
5. Traditional Abhinaya items : a geet - 'Tohe dagara chalata ka bhayo ri beer' and A
thumri as a group choreography 'Zoolata Radhe navala kishor...'
6. "Why" a solo item in Kathak style depicting a very personalised experience of
the earthquake at Killari, Maharashtra of 1993.
7. "Trishna" : a ballet depicting the desire of a woman to cherish her urge for
creativity.
8. "Pratima" : a group choreography that captures images from nature, through
pure dance, inspired by the musical composition "Santorini" by the famous
composer Yanni.
