Mr. Prashant Ahir
Executive VP- Human Resources
An engineering graduate from Mumbai and further a Diploma in Business Management (Human Resources-) from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad; Mr. Prashant Ahir Currently holds the portfolio of Executive V.P. -Human Resources at Thermax Ltd.
Placed through campus at Nasik with Crompton Greaves, he joined there as Plant
In charge. He later worked with Godrej Soaps (a joint venture of Procter & Gamble and Godrej) as Personnel Manager and then with Reliance for 5 years. Having started with Corporate Industrial relations he shifted his focus from Personnel to HR, from HR to HRD and from HRD to the overall management of Human Resources.
He strongly feels that he has an intrinsic affiliation to Human Resources and likes to be involved in Human issues and facilitate their issues. There have been consistent developments ever since he has been at the helm of affairs at Thermax Ltd. Human Resources he says has a strong brand image. There has been focus on performance-culture. A strong mandate has been to align all policies to strengthen performance culture.
The first and foremost thing according to Mr. Ahir is to align and fine tune all systems which support performance-oriented culture. His strategy of working is to bridge the critical gaps in Companies' skill inventory through external intakes and developments. HR he says has a leading role to play in launching organisation wide initiatives.
He has helped the organisation in creating a different approach for HR. Human Resources was very predictable earlier in Thermax Ltd. He started capturing the employees' voice by organising meetings and using technology thus making HR more accessible to people. Human Resources he feels is being utilised in the right fashion in today's Corporate environment. Professionally managed Companies in India have understood HR and acknowledge it as a strong business support strategy.
Basically a Bombay-ite Mr. Prashant Ahir is not too old in Pune. A little premature to comment on Pune, he finds it difficult to adapt to a place like Pune he says. He feels that Pune needs to adopt the cosmopolitan culture. There has to be a place to attract talent , work culture must improve, the people need to become more focused about their career.
He likes Pune for it offers good quality of life and various opportunities for growth but despises the traffic sense of people. He feels Pune needs to be more
accommodative and cosmopolitan.
MESSAGE FOR UPCOMING HR PROFESSIONALS
" Things are changing at a fast pace around us. This is true even for HR technology. We must understand the fundamentals of this change rather than just being informed about it. The concepts, assimilations and learning has to be deep and fast-paced.
